In this series, we get to relish in all the shining glory
(or is he sweating hot-dog grease?) that is William Shatner, as he encounters the outer limits of what we call "news." The ever-opinionated, bloviated, silly-yet-charming and inquisitive Shatner, presents roughly three stories per episode that will surely have you wondering about the nature of our reality. Each of the stories gets a few educated guesses tossed at it by "sciencey-talking-head-types," who also do some "sciencey-type experiments" to promote-- or, demote leading theories. While it treads a lot of the same ground as his current series, "The UneXplained," (it is ten years later, after all) it gives us more Shat', (if you're into that sort of thing) and it does touch on some lesser-known cases that many consider: "bizarre, unexplained, supernatural, or just plain old weird," before ultimately falling into obscurity.

Stories of survival in the most desperate of situations!
Missing people turning back up under mysterious circumstances!
Odd natural
occurrences!
Medical "miracles!"
What the f'k just happened?!"
From Apemen to Zombies, and... SHATNER!
Plus everything in-between!

It's all there, with segment interludes where it's clear that Shatner was given only some mild off-camera- direction, (if any at all) and they let the cameras run. That alone makes this one infinitely enjoyable to watch. Whether Shat's imitating intercourse with a human and an alien using B-r-bie-dolls, (as one interim segment focuses on) or mulling aloud about what could have caused said oddity in the preceding or following segment; his bizarre, sometimes surreal brand of humor, is laid bare. And with myriad off-the-wall topics -- he's never short of oddball material to work with.

I give this one a 4/5. It has a few cases that are a bit out-dated; some that were been debunked or confirmed as hoaxes ("prehistoric tablets showing people with dinosaurs made in kitchen oven") but there's still a lot of ones that are as just as mysterious now as they were then. (ice chunks falling from a clear blue sky with no flight paths overhead... anyone?)
